Day 11: Boston!!!

Greetings friends!

We went into Boston today. We had a couple of slight issues: 1) our car was too tall to fit in the garages (here's a picture of it for Jeanne!)

and 2) Jimmy's ankle injury prevented him and therefore us from walking around the city. We solved the first issue by removing the carrier from the top of our car (my father was humiliated carrying it into our hotel room, even though we went through the back door.) We still barely fit into the garages without it!

We solved the 2nd issue by deciding not to walk around Boston at all! We decided to take a Duck Tour around the city. It sounds really odd, but it ended up being a really good idea! The tour is a little like a bus tour, except that we rode in a WWII amphibious vehicle. Basically, a boat with wheels.

It was fabulous! We saw the city from the streets of Boston, with our tour guide pointing out historical and/or otherwise significant buildings or monuments.

And then we went around to a boat ramp, switched gears into water mode, and drove into the river! We then got to see the city from the water, which was really cool:

The driver, Kilroy, also let a few of us take turns driving while we were out on the water. Jimmy and I both got to drive, and luckily neither one of us ran into the shore!

It was a really great way to see the city! The vehicle, calles a DUKW, was really cool too. When it is in water mode, a propeller is engaged, and the wheels turn side-to-side and act as rudders. When swichting to street mode, the propeller is disengaged and the wheels begin spinning like a normal car again. It was really cool to get to ride on (and drive!) one.

We had a lot of fun, and I would highly recommend seeing the city that way. Our tour guide was a really funny guy, and he knew a lot.

We were surprised at how nice people were in Boston. We thought that they would be rude and obnoxious, but everyone was surprisingly friendly. Overall, it was a great day.

P.S. We are heading into the Amish country in a couple of days. I have a feeling that the Amish community is not big into wireless internet, so we may not be able to post anything for a couple of days. But we will catch back up once we get back into a modern area.

I truly cannot believe that earlier I wrote my blog about our day and some of my wonderful random thoughts and it did not go through. I do not know what I am doing wrong, but it is getting to me. I was really careful when I posted it, but nothing has appeared as yet. Now I am so tired that I think that Winnie and I will go to bed and cry ourselves to sleep. I will try to get one out in the morning before you disappear into no blogging zone.
Night night.
Love,
Gaga and Winnie

Is your computer plugged in GaGa? Don't make me have to go out there.

I'm an official Diva Duck because I went with my new-found friends on a Duck Tour of Palm Beach that enters the Intracoastal Waterway to see the many "winter residences". I think you got gipped because we were given "quackers" and made ourselves heard along the way. Bravo for taking lemons and making lemonade. Sounds that you all had a great day and saw so much.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lancaster, Pa. has kept up with the rest of the world technologically. Jenn might even find a Starbuck's. BTW, a favorite specialty shop of Gracie's is called Starbark's. Don't tell Winnie. He'll start crying again.

Gotta run...literally. Gracie has to go potty.
On that note...have a great day.
TTYL.
Better luck GaGa with your correspondence.
Jeanne, the Diva Duck.

I am up, but my brain is not turned on so this may not make much sense like usual. Last night was something else. Winnie got up about 12:00 and acted like he needed to go out. Papa took him out and Winnie nearly strangled himself by dragging Papa across the yard because he saw a small brown bear. Quite a scene took place until Mama in her nightgown got involved. That darn bear got under the loveseat and would not come out. Winnie was determined to eat him/her alive. Finally we all got back in bed and no more incidents occurred.
Winnie has been scratching himself and tearing his black hair out. I have spoiled his chances of being a show dog because I have cut his hair in a cute but spikie style something like Cindi Lauper's. The gel really helps. Oh, yes, I did my hair the same but with a little purplish tint. The gel does not help, however.
Did you hear about our earthquake? Neither did I, so I suppose that we did not have one.
I was just kidding, there was no small or large brown bear, but it was something which exasperated Winnie and it made for a better story.
Yesterday, I went shopping because Jeanne is coming in August, remember? She wants me to look nice like she always does. I parked at Macy's and shopped there for too long then headed for Chico's. I got about half way there when I remembered that I also had to walk back. So I turned around and headed for the car until I realized what a wimp I am and started back to Chico's. I phoned Papa to tell him to be on the alert in case he had to come down and drive me back to my car at Macy's. Of course, he did not answer the phone. After shopping at Chico's I started back again at a very slow pace. At the corner I saw two valet parking attendents and they said, "Hi, how are you?" I seriously thought about begging them to take one of those cars and drive me back to mine at Macy's. I continued to crawl and made it back to the car.
Papa said that while I am away from home and he is outside, Winnie sits in the computer chair. We don't know if he is blogging or looking at obscene stuff. He has not received any emails as far as we know.
Jimmy, was that an air cast on your ankle? Did your Mom bring it along. Silly me, of course, she did. One can never be too prepared. I hope that you are getting better. In case you ever need any body aids, I have a large storehouse of them. Just look in my closet if I am not home.
Your trip around Boston sounds like a blast. How come Andrew did not drive. I understand that he is a whiz driving on water, so is Jesus. Was your Dad riding shot gun or in the back praying. I know that your Mom was holding her trauma kit just in case.
My mind is getting sharper all the time. Can you tell?
I think that on the way to see GeeGee, I will go by Kohl's and see if I can find some more things to layer up when Jeanne is here. Don't tell Gracie about Winnie's hair. Maybe it will look better in August. Mine too.
I really hope that you can blog while with the Amish people. I cannot go a day without it. I hope that they have Starbuck's for Jenn. Do have a wonderful time and don't tell them about your GaGa. I already think that I am in trouble!
Have a nice day, as they say...
Did you remember to put your car carrier back on your car?
Looking forward to your blog....
Love always and always,
Gaga and Winnie too
